Therapeutic Class

Antibiotics (penicillin combination with beta-lactamase inhibitor)

Indications

Middle ear and sinus infections, Respiratory tract infections, Urinary tract infections, Skin and soft tissue infections including dental infections, Bone and joint infections, Odontogenic infections.

Chemical Composition


Each film-coated tablet contains 250mg of Amoxicillin as Amoxicillin trihydrate and 125mg Clavulanic Acid as Potassium Clavulanate

Dosage & Administration

Adults and children weighing 40kg and over : the usual dose is 1 tablet three times a day. Children weighing less than 40 kg: Children aged 6 years or less should preferably be treated with Moxiclav oral suspension and tablets are not recommended.

Contraindications

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid; penicillin or any of the other ingredients, if you have ever had a severe allergic (hypersensitive) reaction to any other antibiotic. this can include a skin rash or swelling of the face or neck. if you have ever had liver problems or jaundice.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects are allergic reactions, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion and loss of appetite.

Drug Interaction

Probable allergic reactions with allopurinol. Blood levels may be increased and prolonged blood levels with probenecid. Affects efficacy of MTX. May affect efficacy of mycophenolate mofetil.
