Dosage & Administration

The following dosage is recommended for the treatment of each condition: •   For Acute Diseases: - Adults: 1 cap at a time, 3 times daily. -Children 6-14 years: 1 cap at a time,2 times daily. - 2-6 years:1 /2cap at a time, 3 times daily. • Under 2 years: 1/2 cap in the divided doses at 2-3 times daily. •  For Chronic Diseases: .Adults: 1 cap at a time, 2 times daily. Children 6-14 years: ½ cap at a time, 3 times daily. •   For Cystic Fibrosis: .Children over 6 years: 1 cap at a times, 3 times daily, .2-6 years: 1/2 cap at a time, 4 times daily. Vitamin supplements may be necessary for those on unusual diets, on reducing diets with drastically reduced food selection and also for those with inadequate diets, (eg.) alcoholics, diabetics, those recovering from surgery and in convalescence.

Contraindications

Gastroduodenal ulcers.

Warning & Precautions

Use in pregnancy & lactation: Reproduction studies in rats and rabbits using acetylcysteine dosages up to 17 times the usual human dosage have not revealed evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus. There are no adequate and controlled studies to date using acetylcysteine in pregnant women, and the drug should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed. Since it is not known if acetylcysteine is distributed into human milk, the drug should be used with caution in nursing women.

Drug Interaction

Do not take concomitantly with another antitussive or any other drug intended to reduce bronchial secretion during the period of treatment with Azein.
