Therapeutic Class

Antibiotic (Cephalosporin combination with beta-lactamase inhibitor)

Indications

Upper and lower respiratory tract infection, upper and lower urinary tract infection, peritonitis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, and other intra-abdominal infection, septicemia, menigitis, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, gonorrhoea, and other infections of the genital tract.

Chemical Composition

Each vial contains Sterile mixture of Cefoperazone 1G & Sulbactam 1G powder (as cefoperazone sodium and sulbactam sodium)

Packaging

1 vial + 2 ampoules of 10ml of water for injection

Dosage & Administration

Adult 2-4g every 12 hours in equally divided doses. In severe or refractory to the treatment of infections, the daily dose may be increased up to 8g from the 1:1 ratio (i.e, cefoperazone activity 4g).Patients receiving the 1:1 ratio may require additional cefoperazone, administered separately. The recommended maximum daily dosage of sulbactam is 4g.

Contraindications

Individuals with known hypersensitivity to penicillins, sulbactam, cefoperazone or other cephalosporins.

Side Effects

Generally well tolerated.Adverse reactions are mild and transient. The common side effects are gastro-intestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions and very rarely anaphylaxis. Transient pain may be experienced at the site of intramuscular injection and occasionally, thrombophlebitis may follow at the site of intravenous injection
