Indications
Lower respiratory tract infections, severe community-acquired pneumonia,uncomplicated and complicated skin and skin structure infections, intra-abdominal infections, complicated and uncomplicated UTI, gynaecological infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, bone and joint infections and bacterial sepsis
Chemical Composition
Each vial contains Sterile Piperacillin Sodium USP eq. to Piperacillin 4g and Tazobactam sodium eq. to Tazobactam 0.5g, Sodium 8.9mEq(205mg)

Dosage & Administration
Adult : 4.5g 8hourly for 7-10 days , Children >12years with normal renal function 4.5g 8hourly or 3.375g 6 hourly, Children 2-12 years (>40kg) 4.5g 8 hourly, Children 2-12 years (<40kg) 112.5mg/kg bodyweight 8hourly
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to any of the penicillins, cephalosporins, or beta-lactamase inhibitors.
Side Effects
Common side effects are diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, allergic reactions, headache, elevated liver enzymes, and fever
Drug Interaction
Probenecid prolongs the half-life of piperacillin by 21% and that of tazobactam by 71%Vecuronium has been implicated in the prolongation of the neuromuscular blockade of vecuronium.Lactation : Piperacillin is excreted in low concentrations in human milk; tazobactam concentrations in human milk have not been studied. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.Geiatric Use : Patients over 65 years are not at an increased risk of developing adverse effects solely because of age. However, dosage should be adjusted in the presence of renal insufficiency.
